El informe de "Análisis y diagnóstico del medio rural español" realizado a instancias del Ministerio de Medio Ambiente, Medio Rural y Marino, comienza recordando que dos tercios del territorio español son considerados medio rural e integran al 20 por ciento de la población, aunque hay interpretaciones más generosas que incluyen zonas periurbanas con las que prácticamente se alcanzan al 90 por ciento de los habitantes.

This Statistics in Focus is part of a series of country-specific publications on the results of the Farm Structure Survey (FSS) 2007. It provides a brief but nevertheless comprehensive insight into the farm structure in Spain. 1 043 900 agricultural holdings were recorded in Spain in the Farm Structure Survey 2007 (3.3% fewer than in 2005).
